Beware the Kangaroo

Hey, PillowPatterers! This dream isn't from last night, but it's one that left such a deep impression that I still remember it quite vividly.

It was a dark and stormy night. No. Really. In my dream, it was a dark and stormy night, and I was in my parents' house. I sensed that someone or something was waiting for me just outside the front door. All the lights in the house were off, and the scene was drenched in menacing dread. I walked cautiously toward the door. Outside, only lightning flashes pierced the dark, and rain fell down in a cold torrent.

As I slowly approached the door, taking slow careful steps, I reached out fearfully for the doorknob. Then, even though every fiber of my being was screaming to run away, I pulled the door open quickly, all at once. And there, towering above me was the silhouette of a gigantic.... something. I couldn't tell what. All I knew was that it was big--much bigger than me--and it was standing perefectly still. Then a lightning flash illuminated the terrible scene and I could see what the towering thing was: a kangaroo. A disturbingly grumpy, alarmingly menacing kangaroo--eight feet tall at least, and dripping with cold rain.

Why a kangaroo? I have no idea. But I woke up with a start, and for quite a while after that dream, I held kangaroos in wary suspicion.

What do you guys think? Think there's any special meaning?

Hi Brian T, I read your dream yesterday, and it's been popping into my head ever since. I'm convinced that the kangaroo holds the meaning to your dream, so I did a little research this morning to see if anyone has some thoughts on its symbolism -- they did. It seems like people often associate a kangaroo with travel, moving, or protection (I think these all come from their big feet), so maybe you were worried about an upcoming move or change? Just a thought. Or maybe you just saw the movie "Kangaroo Jack" -- that's enough to give anyone nightmares ;-)

I saw the trailer for Kangaroo Jack. Maybe that explains it! :-)
