Recurring Symbols 11-18-2008 | 11:18 AM EST This isn't so much a post about a particular dream as it is a post about dreams in general. For as long as I can remember, I've had certain recurring themes in my dreams. Maybe themes isn't really the right word. It's more that I have certain symbols that I've come to recognize as meaning something specific and consistent in all my dreams. For example, if I'm having a dream that's a totally run-of-the-mill dream (say some varation on what I did that day or am about to do the next day) and I go into a room where I try to turn a light on but the electricity's suddenly and unexplicitly out, that always signals the dream's about to take a turn into something more nightmarish. It's almost like in a horror movie where a change in the background music signals that something bad's about to happen. The turns that my dreams may take for the worse aren't consistent in any way; it's just this precursor (the inability to turn the lights on) that's the same. So, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a consistent set of symbols in their dreams that they recongnize as meaning something specific the second they turn up in a dream?
