Secret Agent Cat Attack!

I'm in a hotel with a group of strangers. These really mean cats keep attacking me. Biting me. Menacing me. They're not exactly tearing me to shreds, but they are determined to bite me over and over.

In desperation, I hide in the bathroom, but somehow the cats keep getting in. Bite bite bite!

How are they getting in? I finally figure it out. One of my human companions is letting them in. The betrayal! It turns out that we humans are secret agents of some kind, and the cats are secret agents too, but from another dimension. (Yow!)

The fellow who is letting them attack me is a double agent. But now his cover is blown and I confront him. His reaction belies his duplicity. I pull a gun on him while the cats gnaw my arms and legs. I make a long, dramatic speech about how he should never have betrayed me, and how I'm going to exact justice, and blah blah blah. I'm building a good oratory rhythm, and when I reach the end of my speech I say, "Guess what?" After a dramatic, two beat pause before I squeeze the trigger, I say--very seriously--"Chicken butt."

At this point, I woke up from the dream laughing hysterically. Guess what? Chicken butt! What a way to dramatically mark the deadliest moment of an execution.

Funny ending aside, it seems that there are a bunch of meaningful symbols in this dream. The hotel (which seems to pop up alot in my dreams.) The cats. The gun. The betrayal.

Thoughts, anyone?

This is a pretty funny dream in a kind of absurd way. But, since you posted that earlier dream about being stalked by a mountain lion, I started thinking about this image of being attacked or preyed upon by cats. (Of course, a mountain lion is a little scarier than secret agent house cats.) From what I could tell, though, cats of any sort are usually interpreted in dreams as symbols of the feminine--sometimes women, sometimes just stereotypically feminine qualities. Although, Jung thought they actually represented a deep psychological secret or a hidden side of one's nature. I think Jung's interpretation is particularly interesting because the cats actually were secret agents! On the surface, then, it's kind of like your dream was about being tormented by some sort of psychological secrets. And, the fact that your friend was the one that was unleashing them on you, kind of feels like it was a fear of someone you know exposing something about you that you don't want exposed. Now, based on the ending of your dream, I think I know the secret, and I'm going to expose it to the world . . . You secretly like cheesy punk rock movies from the 80's! (See the 1984 movie, "Suburbia," for the chicken butt reference if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

Wow! Thanks for the thorough interpretation. Great stuff. Cats of various kinds show up in my dreams often. I can remember one where the cat (a jaguar) didn't attack me--rather, it defended me by attacking someone else.
